Zeppelin LZ108 L60
First flight : 18 December 1917
11 reconnaissance missions; one attack on England;
L.60 raided England 12/13 April 1918 and dropped 34 bombs (3120 kg) over East Halton and Thornton Curtiss without causing damage.
It was destroyed 19 July 1918 together with LZ 99 when seven RNAS Sopwith ships Camel fighters, launched from the aircraft carrier HMS Furious, bombed the Toska hangar at Tønder, Denmark. This was the first carrier strike in history against a land-based target.
Zeppelin shed Toska at Tondern on fire after it was raided by Ship’s Camels
The first flight had successfully hit TOSKA which, at the time, contained two Zeppelins (L54 and L60) both of which were destroyed by fire but didn't actually explode thus minimising damage to the shed itself. Jackson had hit TOBIAS and damaged a balloon inside but Dickson's first bomb appears to have been directed somewhere in the town of Tondern itself. The photo above shows the aftermath of the raid with smoke billowing out of TOSKA as the two Zeppelins burned.
